AAT Asia Airfreight Terminal

December 2006 Hong Kong

World's tallest ETVs

Asia Airfreight Terminal (AAT) is an air cargo terminal based at Hong Kong International Airport, Asia's premier passenger and cargo hub. AAT serves the world's leading airlines, offering a comprehensive range of quality services, from physical cargo handling to documentation processing. AAT decided to expand its cargo terminal by investing in a Terminal 2, which tripled its cargo handling capacity to over 1.5 million tonnes per annum.

In August 2004, Lödige signed a contract to deliver a multi level material handling system for the new AAT cargo terminal. Terminal 2 is capable of handling 910,000 tonnes per annum, with peak day loadings of 4,000 tonnes. It comprises of four floor levels with a total floor area of approx. 117,000 sqm. Road vehicles can deliver and receive freight on three different levels and dolly trains operate on two airside levels. The Pallet and Container Handling System has thirteen storage levels and includes four Elevating Transfer Vehicles (ETV's), that sets a world record for this type of equipment with each vehicle being 43 m high. Each ETV unit is designed to lift eight tonnes with vertical and horizontal speeds of 60 metres per minute and 120 metres per minute respectively among almost 1,000 storage positions. The Automated Storage & Retrieval System contains nine 35 metres high Storage and Retrieval Machines (SRM's) serving 3,500 storage positions with interfaces over three floors.
