New Equipment for DHL Global Forwarding in Frankfurt – Delivered on Point by Lödige

After just under two years of intensive planning and execution, Lödige Industries proudly announces the successful delivery of the complete air cargo handling equipment for two halls at DHL Global Forwarding’s new state-of-the-art air freight terminal at Frankfurt Airport – all delivered right on schedule.

Situated in CargoCity Süd, this cutting-edge 24,500 m² facility consolidates DHL’s existing operations at Frankfurt Airport and boosts capacity to process up to 300,000 tonnes of air freight annually, serving both German and international customers.

Our scope of delivery included:

  • 6× 20ft Truck Docks (TD)
  • 2× 20ft Elevating Work Stations (EWS)
  • 8× 10ft Elevating Work Stations (EWS)
  • 4× 10ft Roller Decks (RD)
  • 2 Castor Deck (CD) areas, each equipped with 3 integrated Power Drive Unit (PDU) lines
  • 3 ULD Pallet Movers and 20× 10ft Cargo Support Pallets
  • Fully integrated weighing software solution for paperless cargo handling — enabling ULDs to be weighed, identified, and documented seamlessly at input/output points, with data directly transferred to DHL’s system

The highlight of the system:

The Power Drive Units (PDUs), installed at Castor Deck height, facilitate the efficient and safe movement of even the heaviest Unit Load Devices (ULDs). One PDU line connects directly to the 20ft EWS, while two additional lines link to mobile ULD support pallets. These pallets are moved by dedicated Cargo Pallet Movers, ensuring smooth and flexible internal transport within the system.
