Between Lent, table football tournaments and everyday working life
Fasting in the office is an topic for many people – whether during Christian Lent or Ramadan. Religious traditions and personal values accompany us in our everyday working lives too. With this employee story, we would like to take a closer look at Ramadan and show how important this special time can be in professional life.
Our colleague Faruq Afghanyar gives personal insights into his everyday life during Ramadan and talks about how fasting affects his work. He talks about his routine at the office, the challenges he faces – but also the positive experiences.
Anyone who knows Faruq knows that he is not only a dedicated colleague, but also a passionate table football player. He shows just as much team spirit and ambition in table football tournaments as he does in his everyday working life. For him, Ramadan is much more than just abstaining from food and drink. The month stands for reflection, discipline, gratitude and personal development – values that also play an important role in the working environment.
My name is Faruq Afghanyar and I work in the area of group accounting at Lödige Industries in Paderborn.
The month of Ramadan means a lot to me personally. Every year, I see it as a kind of chance and opportunity to grow beyond myself. It's not just the spiritual aspect but also that one has the opportunity to develop one's character and personality.
Actually, it is very easy for me at the office because I do this every year and have been doing it for years, it's not a difficult thing for me. If one were to mention anything, it would be perhaps going to bed on time because of the fact that one gets up before dawn to have a meal, it is important to go to bed on time.
Actually, not very different. The time where I would usually eat something, I maybe invest more in foosball table.
So, for me personally it's important to understand the essence of why Muslims fast, what's the wisdom behind it, so to say. And once you understand that, it can also be a positive contribution to society or to the everyday office life. One tries to be even more patient, more disciplined, to be more focused and helpful. This might have a positive effect.
