Steelwork Package Manager

Role Overview

The Steelwork Package Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination, delivery, erection, and commercial performance of the structural and secondary steelwork packages on the project. The role ensures that steelwork is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with the contract requirements, design intent, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Package & Project Management

  • Take full responsibility for the steelwork package from pre-construction through fabrication, erection, and handover
  • Develop and manage the steelwork scope & program
  • Coordinate steelwork activities with other trades, designers, and site team
  • Monitor progress against program and implement mitigation measures where required

Design & Technical Coordination

  • Manage the interface between steelwork contractors, structural engineers, and design teams
  • Manage the review of steelwork design, shop drawings, connection design, and calculations
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, relevant standards, and client requirements
  • Resolve technical and constructability issues in collaboration with stakeholders

Commercial & Contract Management

  • Manage steelwork subcontractor contracts, including scope, variations, valuations, and final accounts
  • Control costs 
  • Assess change events and support the preparation of commercial submissions

Site & Construction Management

  • Oversee site erection activities, logistics, lifting plans, and temporary works coordination
  • Coordinate Steel erection with lifting in position of specialized equipment 
  • Ensure works are sequenced safely and efficiently
  • Monitor quality of fabrication and installation, including inspections and testing

Health, Safety, Quality & Environment (HSQE)

  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture across all steelwork activities
  • Ensure compliance with project H&S plans, method statements, and risk assessments
  • Manage quality assurance processes, NCRs, and snagging to successful completion

Stakeholder & Reporting

  • Act as the main point of contact for all steelwork-related matters
  • Chair and attend progress meetings with subcontractors and internal teams
  • Provide regular reports on progress, risks, costs, and opportunities

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience managing steelwork packages on large construction projects in the middle east, preferable Qatar.
  • Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication and erection processes
  • Experience with subcontractor management and contract administration
  • Excellent coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Good understanding of construction health & safety requirements
