USA for 2.5 months - Dual student Anna shares insights into her personal and professional experiences
2.5 months in the U.S., a new working culture, and countless new impressions: Anna Lüke, a dual-study student at Lödige Industries, spent her practical phase at our branch in Columbia, South Carolina. During her time there, she supported the Procurement and Spare Parts departments and experienced everyday work in an international environment firsthand.
But her stay abroad was about much more than gaining professional insights. It was about stepping out of her comfort zone, discovering new perspectives, and growing along the way. Outside of work, she also took the opportunity to travel and explore different places across the U.S. - experiences and impressions from places she says she will never forget.
Looking back, one lesson stands out for her above all:
“Just go for it.”

I am completing a dual degree in business administration in cooperation with the FHDW in Paderborn. I have focused my studies on international business. During my practical phases at my partner company Lödige Industries, I am mainly involved in purchasing.
Since I’m studying International Business, I’ve long wanted to gain practical experience abroad and apply what I’ve learned there. So I was all the more delighted when the HR department and my academic advisor approached me and offered me an assignment abroad.
I spent a total of three months in the USA. I spent most of my time at our site in Columbia, South Carolina, where I was mainly involved in procurement and spare parts management. I then spent the last two weeks at our site in New York, where I was able to gain a brief insight into all areas of the business.
Very good! I was welcomed openly and warmly right from the start. My main contact person on site had completed a dual study program himself and was therefore able to give me valuable tips and understand my situation well.
On my days off, I tried to explore as much of the region as possible. South Carolina usually has very good weather, so I was able to spend a lot of time at the beach and visit the surrounding towns and nature spots.
For me, the most important lesson was: “Just go for it” and don't always think everything through in detail. My stay abroad helped me grow both professionally and personally. I became more independent, gained more self-confidence, and gained valuable insights into other areas of the company. No one can take away the experiences you gain in another country.
