MAX2 – semi-automated parking system for projects without a pit
Parking at and above entry level
Many residential and underground car park projects have to create more parking spaces within a limited floor plan. There is often no scope downwards, because excavation below entry level is ruled out on structural or economic grounds.
Within the range of semi-automated parking systems, MAX2 is particularly relevant where building below entry level is not possible or not intended. Both parking levels lie at and above the entry, and no pit is required. This produces two parking levels with 3 to 19 parking spaces on the footprint of a single row of parking spaces.
What is Swiss-Park MAX2?
Swiss-Park MAX2 is a semi-automated parking system that organises parking spaces within one system row across two parking levels: at entry level and on an upper floor above it. No parking level is created below the entry. The driver parks the vehicle personally, while the parking solution moves the platforms, which are driven onto horizontally, and presents the selected parking space at entry level. Every vehicle remains independently accessible. Available space can therefore be used more efficiently than with conventional individual parking spaces, without automating the parking process entirely. Swiss-Park is a Lödige Industries company.

Parking sequence
| Direction | Parking step | Carried out by | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Parking space selection | The driver selects their parking space on the operating panel. Any gates fitted must be closed while this happens. | ||
| Parking space provision | The parking solution moves the platforms on the ground floor and brings the selected parking space to entry level; parking spaces on the upper floor are lowered for this. | ||
| Release | The parking solution releases the entry as soon as the parking space has reached its parking position. | ||
| Vehicle entry | The driver drives onto the platform and aligns the vehicle with the positioning aid. | ||
| Parking space organisation | The parking solution moves the platform into its parking position. The vehicle then stands secured on its parking space. | ||
| Vehicle request | The driver requests their parking space on the operating panel. | ||
| Vehicle provision | The parking solution brings the parking space to entry level and releases the exit. | ||
| Vehicle exit | The driver drives the vehicle out of the system. |

Applications
Residential Buildings
In Residential Buildings, parking often has to be organised within a defined underground car park floor plan. MAX2 can create additional parking spaces where more of them are to be accommodated than can be arranged as conventional individual parking spaces on the same area. The solution is particularly relevant where independent parking and a clear organisation of the parking spaces are to be combined.
Residential Developments
In Residential Developments, many users, differing vehicle sizes and limited parking areas come together. MAX2 supports an orderly organisation of the parking spaces across two parking levels and suits projects with medium to higher parking space requirements. The specific design is assessed on the basis of the grids, the building height, the vehicle heights and the access.
Mixed-Use Buildings
Mixed-use projects place differing demands on groups of users, access, the number of parking spaces and operation. MAX2 can be a sensible solution where parking spaces are to be organised efficiently in terms of area without automating the parking process entirely. Where users change, structural modifications to the system are required.
Urban Infill Projects
In Urban Infill Projects, space is often scarce while parking space requirements, vehicle sizes and user comfort still have to be met. MAX2 can help to use existing underground car park areas more efficiently and to organise parking spaces more tightly. What matters is an early assessment of building height, clear passage height, aisle, platform width and rail system.

FAQs
With MAX2, the driver parks the vehicle personally, while the parking solution supports the organisation of the parking spaces system-side. The platforms are positioned so that the selected parking space can be presented. The parking sequence remains user-led, but is organised by the parking solution.
A car stacker increases the density of parking spaces mechanically on the same area. MAX2 additionally organises parking spaces system-side, above and beside one another, and therefore suits projects with higher parking space requirements and greater space efficiency. The decision depends on the floor plan, the number of parking spaces, comfort expectations and the structural conditions.
MAX1, MAX2 and MAX2M belong to the family of semi-automated MAX systems. MAX2 is particularly suitable for projects in which the additional parking level is to lie above entry level and the system can be scaled across several grids. MAX1 is relevant where vehicles of differing heights are to be accommodated and a pit can be created; MAX2M arranges the parking spaces in two to four system rows and is designed for high parking space requirements.
MAX2 can be planned from two grids side by side for three vehicles and can be extended to up to ten grids. The system therefore suits projects with medium to higher parking space requirements. Its specific suitability depends on the floor plan, the building height, the clear passage height, the vehicle dimensions and the level of comfort required.
MAX2 is available in six system types. At entry level, 150, 165, 170, 175, 200 or 205 cm are possible depending on the type, and 150 to 205 cm in steps of 5 cm on the upper floor. The permissible vehicle height at entry level is always equal to or greater than the height on the upper floor. Which type fits follows from the clear passage height and the building height.
MAX2 is designed for vehicle lengths from 500 cm to 520 cm. For vehicles up to 5.0 m in length, a system length of 540 cm is to be provided, and 560 cm for vehicles up to 5.2 m. The detailed design is carried out on a project basis.
Building height, clear passage height, platform width, aisle width, access, rail system, evenness of the floor, electrical connection, the position of the control cabinet and sound insulation are all important. Local regulations, the gate concept, ventilation, lighting and fire protection also have to be taken into account at an early stage.
A fully automated parking system can be more suitable where maximum parking space density, no vehicle traffic on the parking levels or a particularly high-quality user experience is the priority. MAX2, by contrast, is a cost-effective semi-automated solution where the driver continues to park personally and the organisation of the parking spaces is to be supported system-side.
Which alternative might also be suitable?
Depending on the size of the project, the floor plan, the parking space requirement and the expectations regarding comfort, a different technology class may also make sense. The following starting points help with an initial orientation.
